Texas A&M Student Athletes facilitate donation of $30,000 to United Way Flood Relief

United Way of the Midlands recently received a donation of $30,000 to its Flood Disaster Relief Fund from the Texas A&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

The donation from SAAC will be used to support United Way’s long-term relief efforts to help rebuild the Midland’s community and will be distributed through United Way partner agencies.

“We have been incredibly fortunate to have support from individuals and organizations from across the country for flood relief,” said United Way of the Midlands President and CEO, Mac Bennett. “This effort by Aggie student athletes is a great example of that and their support is making a difference in our community.”

Funds were raised from the sale of commemorative 12th Man towels during University of South Carolina’s football game against Texas A&M last month. The fundraiser was supported in conjunction with Aggie student athletes and the 12th Man.

“SEC schools have a history of helping each other in times of need,” said Texas A&M Director of Athletics, Eric Hyman.  “This is another example of SEC student athletes rising to the occasion to lend a helping hand. I am truly proud of the selfless service of our Aggie student-athletes and for the outstanding leadership provided by our Aggie SAAC.”
