The Hobbs Group, P.A.
December 23, 2009Shouldn’t a CPA firm add to your bottom line rather than your overhead? Shouldn’t a CPA firm help you achieve your financial goals?
The Hobbs Group is a full-service CPA firm that provides solid, traditional accounting, as well as non-traditional services to its clients. They take a proactive approach to learn about their clients’ businesses and also to get to know their clients in order to offer tailored solutions to their specific circumstances. They are a firm with a great combination of talent: veteran leadership and new young recruits. Their focus is on your financial success.
We are large enough
to be able to deliver a wide range
of services to our clients,
but small enough to maintain
close personal relationships.
Our first priority is to fully understand the financial needs and goals of our client, says Mark Hobbs, a founding partner of The Hobbs Group. Once this has been determined, we are committed to working with our clients to assist them in achieving their objectives.
After graduating from Clemson in accounting in 1979, Mark spent the early part of his career working for a national accounting firm. In 1986, he decided to head out on his own. Today, the company has three other shareholders: Tibby Whitcomb, Malynda Grimsley, and Christina Kelly, all CPAs. All shareholders are actively involved in the community and in their churches. In addition, all staff are encouraged to give back to our community through participation in various nonprofit organizations.
Integrity and professionalism are core values that are central to the firm. Since its inception, the Hobbs Group has maintained a membership in the Private Companies Practice Section of the AICPA and participates in a continuous three year peer review program which includes internal inspection. It has received an unqualified opinion on each review.

The Hobbs Group has been engaged with small businesses, construction contractors, the real estate industry, professional groups, doctor’s offices, attorneys, governmental entities, and nonprofit organizations. The firm has grown over the two decades and now offers a full range of services from audit and attestation, tax services, small business assistance, and consulting. It has built on these traditional strengths and branched out into new practice areas such as 401k audits, employee benefit services, and personal financial planning.
We are large enough to be able to deliver a wide range of services to our clients, but small enough to maintain close personal relationships, says Malynda Grimsley. We feel that it is important to show a genuine interest in our clients as individuals and to pick up the phone and give them a call. We also think it’s important for our clients to see the family atmosphere that pervades this office.
Christina Kelly, who has been with the firm since 1998, leads attestation services for the Firm. Jeff Nates, CPA directs tax services while Malynda Grimsley coordinates the litigation consultation and forensic accounting areas of the Practice. Peter Pigeon, CFP manages non-traditional services, such as risk management and investment services, and Karen Hopkins serves as the Firm’s Office Administrator. All of these individuals work hard to add value to the Firm’s services.
Perhaps most indicative of the culture at the firm is the annual Clemson/Carolina tailgating party hosted the Friday before the game. What started as an informal employee only party has now evolved into a client appreciation afternoon with hundreds in attendance.
