The Spartanburg County Foundation Announces Spring 2014 Grant Cycle

November 5, 2013

SPARTANBURG, SC – November 5, 2013 – The Spartanburg County Foundation is excited to announce that in 2014, it will award 4 high impact grants of $25,000 each to nonprofit organizations seeking to improve the quality, effectiveness, and access to education for Spartanburg County residents. The Foundation’s grantmaking efforts will focus on the areas of Education and Social Environment, two of the Indicator Areas identified by the Spartanburg Community Indicators Project. For the past two years, the trustees and staff of The Spartanburg County Foundation have been working diligently to identify and redefine the Foundation’s Responsive Grantmaking Program – setting grantmaking priorities, and improving both the applicant and reviewer process.

Eligible projects and programs should address at least one of the Leading Indicators for Education, which include: average educational attainment of the adult population, school readiness for kindergarten and first grade, high school graduation rate, and college graduation rate.  Primary consideration will be given to organizations that have: a track record of implementing successful programs and services that meet a documented need in the community; targeted strategies reaching populations considered to be most at risk; appropriate measurement and evaluation tools in place; a history of fostering relationships and building collaborative partnerships with other organizations and constituencies in the community; match funding to advance the program or project, and a plan for continued funding at the end of the grant period. All organizations interested in applying must be nonprofit organizations with proof of 501 (c)(3) status, and must operate and serve residents within Spartanburg County.

The Foundation has transitioned to an online grant submission process.  Applications and required supporting documents must be uploaded using the online system; proposals submitted in any other manner will not be considered.  Grant guidelines and the Request for Proposal are listed on the Foundation’s website at www.spcf.org.  The grant application will be made available on Friday, December 13, 2013, also through the Foundation’s website.

In order to apply for a grant, a representative from your organization must attend one of the training sessions scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2013, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., and Tuesday, December 10, 2013, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., at the Spartanburg County Public Library – Headquarters Library (151 S. Church Street, Spartanburg) in the Barrett Room.  Registration is required for each of these training sessions, and seating is limited.

To register for a training session, please contact Ashley Thomason, program associate, at 864.582.0138 or [email protected].
