COLUMBIA, SC — TransformSC leaders presented an innovative workshop titled, “Transforming Public Schools Today!” at the National School Boards Association Annual Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, on Saturday, April 9.

Presenters included BB&T of South Carolina President and South Carolina State Board of Education Chair Mike Brenan, TransformSC Director Dr. Peggy Torrey, and National School Boards Association Southern Region Representative and Lexington Two School Board Member Beth Branham.

TransformSC, an education initiative of the South Carolina Council on Competitiveness, is a collaboration of business leaders, educators, students, parents and policy makers transforming the public education system so that every student graduates prepared for careers, college and citizenship. TransformSC schools and districts are designing, launching, promoting and proving transformative practices in the classroom. Currently there are 40 schools from 19 districts, as well as three entire districts, in the TransformSC network.

“We are extremely proud of the work that is happening statewide through the TransformSC initiative. The South Carolina School Boards Association is proud to share this success story with school board members from across the country,” says SCSBA Executive Director Scott Price.

Session attendees learned about the TransformSC movement that has the backing of top CEOs, school boards, administrators and teachers and has even caught the attention of educationalist Sir Ken Robinson, who features TransformSC in his new book Creative Schools.

The National School Boards Association represents state school boards associations and their more than 90,000 local school board members.
