Turning Pages SC to host volunteer tutor workshop

March 18, 2024

Turning Pages SC, a leading force in adult literacy in central South Carolina, has announced its upcoming volunteer Tutor Workshop. Scheduled for Saturday, May 25, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Columbia office, this workshop will equip new volunteer tutors with the tools needed to change lives through literacy.

Since its relaunch last year, Turning Pages SC has seen remarkable achievements, including enrolling over 30 new learners and establishing numerous partnerships. Highlighting the impact of personalized sessions, one learner advanced her reading skills by 2.5 grade levels. This is a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of volunteer tutors right here in our community.

Workshop Details: Free; Registration Required

When: Saturday, May 25, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Where: Turning Pages SC Office

We invite community members to join us in this fulfilling volunteer opportunity.

No previous teaching experience is required—just a love of literacy and empowering others. The workshop will cover all necessary training to prepare volunteers for their tutoring role. Once assigned, tutors spend one hour per week for 24 weeks helping their learner work through custom curriculum from Proliteracy.

“Our volunteer tutors are crucial to the success of our learners,” says Lisa Cole, Executive Director at Turning Pages SC. “This Tutor Work orkshop is both an opportunity to learn how to teach reading and to truly make a difference in someone’s life.”
