Two long-time Trident Tech employees promoted

Two long-time Trident Technical College employees have taken on new roles at the college.

Dr. Catharine Almquist has been named vice president for academic affairs. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing all aspects of instruction, curriculum development and learning support for the college, which has an enrollment of more than 13,000 academic students.

Almquist came to Trident Tech in 1990 as an adjunct instructor of chemistry and biology. The next year she took a full-time teaching position, and in 1993 became department head of physical sciences. Over the next 24 years she served in various positions at Trident Tech, including associate dean, director of institutional research, and assistant vice president of technology and planning. She most recently served as associate vice president for planning and accreditation.

Almquist earned an Associate in Arts degree from Iowa Western Community College, a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the College of Charleston, a master’s degree in immunobiology from Iowa State University, and a doctorate in community college policy and administration from the University of Maryland University College.

James “Dub” Green has been named associate vice president for planning and accreditation. Green is responsible for planning, assessment and institutional research at the college. He also ensures compliance with state and federal reporting requirements and serves as the institutional liaison to the college’s regional accrediting agency.

Green holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from the College of Charleston. He was a visiting instructor at the College of Charleston and an adjunct instructor at Trident Tech from 1993 to 2000. He joined Trident as a full-time mathematics instructor in 2000. He became a research analyst at the college in 2007 and was promoted to director of institutional research in 2015.

Both Almquist and Green report to the college’s president and serve on the president’s cabinet.
