United Way of the Piedmont hires new Director of Marketing and Communications

January 5, 2017

SPARTANBURG, SC – United Way of the Piedmont (UWP) announced that Alex Moore has joined the UWP staff as Director of Marketing and Communications. In this position, Moore will support and promote the mission of UWP through outreach, public relations, and marketing strategies.

Moore graduated from Wofford College and soon after committed to a year of service through the Corporation for National Community Service’s Americorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) Program, where she was responsible for building the capacity of a local nonprofit. Since then, Moore has spent the last four and a half years at CommunityWorks, another Upstate nonprofit focused on financial stability and economic development programs. At CommunityWorks, Alex was instrumental in the creation and implementation of marketing efforts and program development for both CommunityWorks and its sister organization, CommunityWorks Federal Credit Union.

As Director of Marketing and Communications at UWP, Moore hopes to educate people about the work currently being done and the work still left to do in our communities. She comments, “There are so many amazing things happening in the Upstate right now. I have gotten to see great work being done to better our communities, and now I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to help spread the word about what’s happening in Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union Counties.”

Moore has come to UWP as the organization faces a time of transition and growth and sought someone to grow the UWP brand and tell its story. Moore wants to not only tell the story of UWP, but the nonprofit community it supports as well. “I think my experience in nonprofit and working directly with the people who are struggling and need the services provided by these great organizations, make me well-equipped to tell these stories,” she says.

Paige Stephenson, UWP President and CEO, says, “We are excited to have Alex on board as she will play a key role helping our community understand the work United Way of the Piedmont is doing and the issues we are working to address in education, financial stability and health.”
