Urban League of the Upstate announces award honorees

maxYOUNG JR., AWARD RECIPIENT: Max Metcalf

Max Metcalf is a graduate of Clemson University and the Manager of Government & Community Relations at BMW Manufacturing. Max has volunteered with the Urban League of the Upstate since January of 2005, serving on the Greenville Board and currently on the Board of Directors. His long-standing support has made a direct impact across the Upstate – specifically ​​in Greenville and Spartanburg area​s​ – in fostering a more unified, diverse Upstate. A man with an unwavering dedication to family and community, Max quietly exhibits his deep commitment to the needs of his neighbors through his affiliations and memberships.

XANTHENE NORRIS EDUCATIONAL AWARD RECIPIENT: Legacy Charter School- Fred Crawford and William W. Brown

Now in its seventh year, Legacy provides 1,350 scholars with a learning culture that encourages eager minds and healthy bodies. The school’s vision is that each scholar has the power to get to and through college. To fulfill this vision, Legacy employs a three-part educational strategy of Academic Excellence, Physical Fitness, and Superior Nutrition. Legacy’s elementary school provides the foundation for a middle school program that readies scholars for high school dual enrollment classes at Greenville Tech and North Greenville University. Scholars can graduate high school having earned up to two years in transferable college credits. These advantages have yielded 100% of Legacy’s graduates being accepted to college.

twittyVOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD RECIPIENT: The Honorable Jasmine Twitty

Appointed to the position of Associate Judge of the Municipal Court of Easley, South Carolina in August 2015, Jasmine is the youngest Judge to ever be appointed or elected in the history of the United States at the age of 25. Twitty graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in political science and, in addition to her professional career, serves as both a role model and leader as an Urban League of the Upstate volunteer.
