USC honors Goldwater Scholars with Capstone lights
March 31, 2025The University of South Carolina will illuminate the Capstone building in garnet on Monday, March 31, to recognize two students awarded the Goldwater Scholarship, one of the highest national honors for undergraduate researchers.
Honors College students Linden McGregor and Michael Pitre received the scholarship on Friday, March 28. McGregor is studying biochemistry and molecular biology in the College of Arts and Sciences, while Pitre is pursuing a BARSC degree with an accelerated undergraduate-to-M.D. concentration and a minor in neuroscience. Both are preparing for advanced degrees.
The Goldwater Scholarship provides up to $7,500 annually and connects recipients with researchers, mentorship opportunities, and career pathways. USC has produced Goldwater scholars for 33 consecutive years, with 72 winners to date. This year, USC nominated four students, including neuroscience junior Taylor Childress and biomedical engineering junior Ethan Renken.
