Pedro came to America when he was 15, not knowing any English. His story of entrepreneurship began when, after he graduated high school, he moved to California and co-founded, with two of his friends, a multi-media company. This company branched off to MoofacesTV, where stars like Will Smith and the Black Eyed Peas were interviewed. By the time De Abreu left California, the company had partnerships with companies like MTV Networks and many others.

Upon returning to South Carolina, he started the Check Mate Foundation, a foundation that teaches chess and leadership to children across the state. In 2012, British publishing house Marshall Cavendish featured him, along with 24 entrepreneurs from around the world, in the book Young Entrepreneur World: How 25 Teen-Trepreneurs Succeeded and Left World Leaders Scratching Their Heads.

Pedro is also an accomplished scholar. In 2011, the Coca-Cola Foundation and the USA Today picked him as South Carolina’s New Century Scholar. He has since become an All-SC Scholar, a USC Leadership Scholar, a Mayoral Fellow, a Darla Moore Emerging Leader, a TEDMED delegate, as well as a Magellan and a Walker Institute Scholar, the latter for his research in intercultural education issues.

Today Pedro speaks professionally around the globe on the topics of leadership and motivation, where he is represented by Teen Speakers International Bureau. Pedro is a student at the Darla Moore School of Business, where he studies Economics. Pedro plans on joining a research PhD next year.
