W.J. Keenan Student Wins $40,000 National Scholarship

COLUMBIA, SC – Briana Abraham, a W.J. Keenan High School senior, advanced as a top 20 national finalist to win $40,000 in scholarships in the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student (MVS) scholarship contest.

As one of 20 national finalists, Briana had a chance to win up to $50,000 in college scholarship and an opportunity to go to Chicago on April 24 for the MVS Leadership Weekend. Briana won the second-place $40,000 scholarship at the finalist competition.

More than 19,000 high school seniors across the nation applied for an Elks National MVS Scholarship this year. MVS Scholars are judged on their academic record, community service and leadership.

The award announcement regarding Briana described her this way: “Briana Abraham stood out as one of the best of the best among this accomplished group. The staff, administrators, and students of W.J. Keenan High School should be proud of this impressive feat!”

In the fall, Briana plans to attend George Mason University and major in computer science.
