Walmart Foundation Awards $50,000 to One80 Place

April 29, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC – One80 Place has received a $50,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program to support its food programs. One80 Place prepares and serves more than 170,000 meals to hungry and homeless people annually.

“Serving an average of 185 meals a day to anyone in need, our Zucker Family Community Kitchen is just one of many outreach efforts we have to engage homeless individuals in our programs and services,” said Stacey Denaux, CEO at One80 Place. “We often find that people who need further help come to the kitchen for meals first before committing to living in the shelter and participating in our other programs.”

Founded in 1984, One80 Place continues to provide daily community meals and shelter in the Lowcountry and has enhanced its facility and services to offer legal, healthcare and employment resources for individuals, families and Veterans.
“The support of our programs results in an incredible impact on immediate hunger and long-term change throughout the community,” Denaux said.

Coordinating hundreds of volunteers, the organization’s food programs also involve strategic collaboration throughout the region such as a refrigerated truck to rescue food from nearby restaurants and grocers.
“Walmart is committed to supporting programs like One80 Place as part of our fight against hunger,” said Brooke Mueller, Director of Public Affairs for Walmart. “Through this grant, we’re hopeful that those in need will feel a positive effect.”

In 2014, community giving in South Carolina from Walmart stores, clubs and the Walmart Foundation totaled $31.9 million.
