Wando Marching Band wins 5A State Championship

November 11, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC – The Wando Marching Band came home victorious after traveling to Columbia, S.C. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, to compete in the 5A State Marching Band Competition.

In its last nine appearances, Wando came home with the state trophy. In this, its tenth appearance in 11 years, the band was again successful bringing home the State Marching Band Championship.

“This is indeed an honor for all of us,” said Bobby Lambert, Wando’s Director of Bands. “Ten state championships in consecutive appearances is a feat not seen in many other arenas. Our school and administrators are incredibly supportive along with some of the best parental and community support one could ask. Our students rose above the challenges of the weather this year and created a truly amazing performance. We’re so proud of their accomplishment but also the incredible character they displayed in front of the entire state.”

While the band did not compete at the state contest last year, it traveled to Indianapolis to compete in a national band competition, taking home the seventh place trophy out of the 93 competing schools.

The Wando Marching Band’s next performance will be a fall concert on Thursday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Dr. Lynda Davis Performing Arts Center at Wando High School.
