COLUMBIA, SC – Did you know that prostate cancer mortality rates in South Carolina are three times greater in African Americans than Caucasians? Or that African American women succumb to breast cancer at higher rates than white women? Learn about cancer health disparities at EngenuitySC’s popular Science Café series on June 10, 2014 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with Dr. Chanita Hughes-Halbert.

Dr. Hughes-Halbert is the SmartState AT&T Distinguished Endowed Chair in Cancer Equity at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Hollings Cancer Center and is a national leader in health disparities research. She is a national expert in minority health and health equity as well as cancer prevention and control.

Dr. Hughes-Halbert is the leader of the Cancer Control Program at the Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC, the state’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center.
