Whole Wheat Apple Cinnamon Waffles

1 cup whole-wheat flour

2 Tsp. baking powder

1/2 Tsp. ground cinnamon

1/4 Tsp. salt

1 egg, lightly beaten

1 cup nonfat milk or alternative milk (such as almond milk)

1 Tbsp. honey

1/2 Tsp. olive oil

1/2 medium apple, peeled, cored, and chopped or shredded

 

Directions:

  1. Combine first four ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Combine next four ingredients in a separate bowl.
  3. Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients just until moistened.
  4. Stir in chopped apple.
  5. Pour batter into a heated nonstick waffle iron (may be sprayed with nonstick spray).
  6. Cook until both sides are browned and waffle holds its shape.
  7. Top with chopped or sliced apple if desired.
  8. May be dusted with powdered sugar and maple syrup.
