Winners named in The Woodlands at Furman Challenge 2013
December 17, 2013GREENVILLE, SC – December 17, 2013 – The Woodlands at Furman Challenge had a new set of top finishers in 2013.
On the women’s side, Lola Amcher was the top points earner in the series’ 10 road races. She was followed by Monika Wells in second and Flora Fulton and Anne Brooks finishing tied for third. Guenter Full was the points leader on the men’s side followed by James Horne and George Luke.
The Woodlands at Furman Challenge is a race series for runners and walkers over age 65. In total, 163 seniors took part in the series, which features courses sponsored by the Greenville Track Club.
In finishing first, Full, 77, of Simpsonville, competed in nine of 10 races with two third place finishes, but many times finished in the top five to garner more points. Amcher, 71, of Greenville took part in six races with two first place finishes, a second place finish and a third place finish.
The Challenge is put on with the help of The Greenville Track Club, which is the state’s second-oldest running club. The club’s goal is to provide the running and fitness community with a schedule of top quality events in which area residents can reach fitness and life enrichment goals through participation or volunteering.
The Woodlands at Furman is a non-profit, mission driven continuing care retirement community owned and operated by a local board of directors and managed professionally by Greystone Communities.
