2015 Love, Peace & Hip-Hop Festival Presents Internationally Acclaimed Artists

The Festival Announces 2015 Headline Performers

 

COLUMBIA, SC- Today the annual Love, Peace & Hip-Hop Festival announced three headlining artist; Nice & Smooth, Monie Love and Big Gipp of the Goodie Mob will be headlining this year’s festival held in Columbia, S.C. on April 18, 2015.

“These artists are going to bring an internationally diverse glimpse of hip-hop to Columbia,” said Darius Johnson, aka FatRat Da Czar, festival organizer. “From hip-hop’s roots in New York, to the “Dirty South”, to the worldwide evolution and growth of the art form, we’ll have it all for you at Columbia’s Hip-Hop Family Day.”

LPHH HEADLINERSNice & Smooth is a duo from New York who released four albums in the 80s and 90s.  Their biggest radio hit was “Sometimes I Rhyme Slow…” in 1991.  Monie Love is a female English emcee who was one of the first BritHop artists to be signed and distributed worldwide by a major record label.  Her biggest U.S. hit was “It’s a Shame (My Sister)” in 1990.

Big Gipp from the Goodie Mob is a rapper from Atlanta; as a member of the legendary Goodie Mob, they released four socially conscious hip-hop albums that rose to critical and commercial success.  Big Gipp is one of the key artists that attributed to the rise of the hip-hop scene in Atlanta and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in hop-hop including Outkast, Nelly, Ali, Jermaine Dupri, Three 6 Mafia, Ludacris and the Wu Tang Clan.

“This festival mission is to educate Columbia about the hip-hop culture,” said Sherard Duvall, festival organizer.  “Hip-hop is rooted in family, education, giving back to the community, discourse, and community engagement and our headliner artists live and breathe this culture.”

The third annual Love, Peace & Hip-Hop festival is FREE and will be held on April 18, 2015 on Columbia’s Main Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The festival is presented by WellCare Health Plans and Healthy Connection in partnership with the City of Columbia, the Columbia Music Festival Association and the Nickelodeon’s Indie Grits Film Fest.
