2022 Bourbon for Boobs raises $85k for breast health
November 2, 2022Planning for 2023 Event Already Underway
The 2022 Bourbon for Boobs event was a huge success, raising more than $85,000 for the Bon Secours Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health. The money will be used to help underserved women access the screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, and breast MRIs they need.
“I am still blown away by the turn-out; we had a crowd of 300 plus strong that showed up with love, generosity, and pure joy for the 3rd annual Bourbon for Boobs event at Cowboy Up Music Venue, and the hope in the air was contagious. It’s no wonder we blew our $60,000 goal out of the water!” shared event organizer Melissa Morrell.
Bourbon for Boobs was created in honor of Sammie Sweeney-Ferrigan, who fought stage 4 breast cancer for six years before succumbing to the illness. Held on October 20th at Cowboy Up in Greenville, the 3rd annual event far outpaced its original $60,000 fundraising goal.
The success is partially credited to the many vendors who pitched in for the evening. Cowboy Up, along with Society Sandwich Bar and Social Club, Makers Mark, and Trey Francis and his band all donated their services to ensure 100% of the money raised would benefit the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health. The event also showcased a silent and live auction with involvement from other Upstate retailers, restaurants, and businesses.
“I could never fully express my gratitude enough to our event partners, sponsors, volunteers, and those who donated to our silent and live auction. I also want to thank my family! It was a complete TEAM SAMMIE effort with incredible results!” said Morrell.
Proceeds will support the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health, located in Suite 220 of Building 131 on the Bon Secours St. Francis Eastside campus. It brings the most advanced breast imaging technology available together in one place with an expert staff that offers compassionate, convenient care and rapid results.
In addition to the exams offered at the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health, the Bon Secours St. Francis mobile mammography coach offers screening mammograms throughout the community. The mobile increases access to care by removing transportation barriers for women in Greenville, Anderson, Pickens, and Oconee Counties. It’s on the road 5-6 days a week, offering the latest 3D tomosynthesis technology.
