2024 Dave Spurlock CCSD Football Jamboree canceled

August 12, 2024

Due to challenges created by Tropical Storm Debby, the annual Dave Spurlock Charleston County School District (CCSD) Football Jamboree will not happen in 2024; the 12-team exhibition event was initially scheduled for Friday, August 16, 2024, at Robert E. Hayes Field at the District 2 Regional Stadium in Mount Pleasant.

Several of the participating schools lost nearly a week of practice because of weather and field conditions. In addition, teams in the district have scheduled full scrimmages next week, and players participating in those contests must wait three full days before playing another team again.

“This decision was not made lightly, as we are trying to make the Spurlock Jamboree a staple event for the Charleston County football community,” said Trevor Strawderman, the district’s Executive Director of Athletics. “CCSD staff and school athletic directors discussed what benefitted student-athletes and our football programs the most, specifically, player safety and how teams would be best prepared to start the regular season.”

The preseason event, named after long-time Lowcountry athletic leader and former CCSD Athletic Director Dave Spurlock, will have to wait for the 2025 season.
