2024 Southern Living Idea House honored with national home builder award

Kiawah River, a waterfront community near Charleston, S.C. and the region’s first agrihood, announced that the 2024 Southern Living Idea House has earned a Silver award for Best One-of-a-Kind Home – Custom or Spec from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) at The Nationals, one of the housing industry’s most prestigious awards programs.
Situated in the heart of Kiawah River, this 4,400-square-foot farmhouse was designed to celebrate the natural beauty of the Charleston region. Featuring expansive outdoor living spaces with picturesque water views, the home embodies the community’s sea island lifestyle and commitment to craftsmanship.

The Idea House was brought to life by an esteemed team of collaborators, including builder Dillard-Jones, architect MHK Architecture, interior designer Allison Elebash Interiors and landscape architect DesignWorks.
Open for tours from August through December 2024, the home drew more than 17,000 visitors and provided a unique opportunity to experience its innovative design and Lowcountry charm firsthand.
The Nationals, hosted annually by the National Association of Home Builders, honor the best in the building industry — including home builders, developers, associates and consultants — for their determination, integrity, creativity and endurance. A diverse panel of industry professionals selected the Silver award winners from over 1,200 entries. This year’s awards were presented at the International Builders’ Show on February 25, bringing together industry leaders from across the country.
