25 students awarded scholarships to attend Trident Tech from Charleston Metro Chamber
April 20, 2018On April 17, 2018, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce awarded 25 area high school students with Accelerate Greater Charleston 2 (AGC) Scholarships. Since its inception four years ago, the scholarship has created the opportunity for 152 students to pursue higher education at Trident Technical College.
The scholarship is awarded to students in Berkeley County, Charleston County and Dorchester 2 School Districts who are graduating from a regional Career Academy with a 2.0 to 2.9 GPA. Each student will be provided a $1000 per semester scholarship (or $2000 per year) to Trident Technical College for up to two years to obtain a degree in one of our region’s high-demand career sectors.
“The basis of our talent platform is to ensure that our children and grandchildren can graduate high school with the skills necessary to fill high-demand jobs in the Charleston region,” said Mark Lattanzio, Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board. “These students have been given the opportunity to attend Trident Technical College and find fulfilling careers without having to leave the region.”
Through the A2 Scholarships, Career Academies and Youth Apprenticeships, the Chamber is preparing our local students with the skills they need to be hired in the region’s highest demand jobs. Utilizing a Talent Demand Study completed in 2014 and updated in 2016, the Chamber has identified and projected what jobs are the fastest growing and what skills they require.
These programs, with the commitment of 121 A2 investors, are creating opportunities and changing the lives of our students, while preparing them for a worthwhile career.
“I never thought I would get the opportunity to earn a scholarship like this, “said Nicholas Crosby, 2018 A2 Scholarship recipient. “I am so excited to be able to go to college and get an engineering degree to pursue my dream job at Boeing.”
