27 Students participate in Leveraging Literacy Afterschool Reading Program year-end ceremony at Salvation Army

The Leveraging Literacy Free Afterschool Reading Program recently wrapped up for the school-year with an exciting Year-End Ceremony at The Salvation Army of the Midlands’ Center for Worship and Service. 27 elementary students received certificates of completion, bibles from The Salvation Army, and brand new sneakers from Innersole. The Leveraging Literacy Reading Program staff recognized the many volunteers that aid the program throughout the year as well as support from Colonial Life, University of South Carolina, Innersole, Richland Library, United Way, Young Leaders Society and the SC Education Oversight Committee.

The Leveraging Literacy program is open to students in 1st-5th grade who read below grade level. The program meets every weekday when school is in session with a focus on vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension to increase student success.
