3 ways to enjoy the next week and still fit into your NYE outfit
December 21, 2017By Brian Maynor
Last week we looked at navigating all of the holiday goodness around the office, but now that work is wrapping up it’s time to shift our focus to spending time at home with family and friends.
And we all know when we’re at home surrounded by friends and family there will always be lots to eat and drink. Unlike in the office, it’s hard to feign an allergy or be weird about someone else’s cooking, because we know who prepared the food intimately, and it’s our favorites.
Fortunately there are fitness experts in the world that have our waistlines in mind and some suggestions on how we can enjoy being home for the holidays and still fit into our amazing NYE ensembles.
Whether or not we choose to follow the rules is entirely up to us, but here is what the top health conscious professionals are recommending:
1. Only eat when you’re hungry. It may sound simple, but when faced with a smorgasbord of our favorite foods, some we only see once a year, the temptation to have second and sometimes third helpings can be hard to resist. If you feel the urge to go back for another plate, make yourself wait a few minutes. Feeling full isn’t something that happens immediately after we eat.
2. Don’t show up hungry. Going to a party hungry is probably the worst thing we can do. When we’re hungry we are not able to really in a position to make the best choices, so the suggestion is to eat a high-protein snack before we leave the house. Eating something ahead of time will help us feel full quicker and make it easier to not over indulge due to hunger.
3. Drink more. Not only do we often confuse hunger for thirst, fluids help fill space in our stomachs so we don’t tend to eat as much. However, that does not mean we have a free pass on alcohol. The general suggestion, for any party really, is to alternate water or tea with wine or cocktails. This not only cuts the number of alcoholic drinks we consume in half, it helps us stay hydrated and feeling better the next day.
If you’re like me, time at home and around family often revolves around food and alcohol. After all, what better way to defuse an awkward conversation or situation? But the flipside is starting the New Year off feeling miserable and dejected due to the weight gained over the past two months. Instead, try these tips and kick off 2018 looking and feeling great!
