If you’ve checked out the weather forecast lately, you’re probably feeling about as despondent as I am.

Columbia is about to be underwater, my friends. It has already been a fairly rainy and miserable week, and now with Hurricane Joaquin (When do I get to name a hurricane?), it’s about to get even worse.

As we descend into a Waterworld-esque weekend of dystopian proportions, it’s comforting to know there are things you can do to take advantage of your time trapped indoors.

  1. Cook something that takes forever.

Look at this time tucked away from society as your chance to really hone your culinary skills. Homemade marinara sauce, puff pastry, slow-roasted pork, or anything from Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking will help keep you from being bored and leave you with something delicious to enjoy in the evening over candles and wine.

Or just cook a really huge fish.

  1. Board Game Day

When’s the last time you actually played a board game? I know…I can’t remember either. I’m not even sure why. Other than a startlingly violent incident involving the iconic Sweet Valley High Board Game with my sister when I was 9, I’ve always enjoyed them.

If you have friends that are close by, invite them to kayak down Saluda Street with their sentimental favorite game for a visit.

Make sure you have fresh sheets in your guest bedroom just in case.

  1. Film Festival Day

Pick out some of your favorite classic films (Singin’ in the Rain is an obvious choice), grab a bowl of popcorn, and prepare to veg. This would also be a great time to re-watch a miniseries you remember loving from years ago.

My weekend is set.

  1. Spa Day

Pamper yourself. Draw a nice bubble bath. Pour a glass of champagne. Use up all those facial peels/masks/crèmes from months of Birchbox subscription leftovers. Give yourself a mani/pedi. Take all the time you want. With this weather, you’re not going anywhere.

Slather these items upon yourself.

We’re going to get through this, my fellow Columbians. Hang in there. And if you have any other ideas of how to deal with this foul weather, drop me a line and let me know!

Cheers!
