Tired of your kitchen? But not quite ready for a major overhaul?  There are tons of great ideas out there! And now with great websites like Houzz.com and Pinterest, we can all be weekend handymen & women. And of course if you aren’t up for the challenge yourself, there are reputable companies that will be more than happy to help you tackle these ideas. Here are a couple of my favorite quick, easy and low cost ideas to spruce up your space without breaking the bank.

1) PAINT

Paint is your friend! Do not be afraid of it. Its cost is relatively low, and guess what? If you do not like the color, repaint it! It is not the end of the world. So you ask, what are you painting? How about an accent wall in the kitchen? Try something vibrant for a pop of color.  Or how about the island or peninsula cabinets in your kitchen.  The cabinets do not have to be matchy-matchy, the best designs are often not.  If you are still feeling apprehensive, then liven up your kitchen accessories with a bold new color.

2) HARDWARE

Cabinet hardware is much like a woman’s jewelry, it adds just the right finishing touch.  So take a look at your kitchen knobs and pulls. Maybe it is time to update them or change them to out change the feel of the space.  There are MANY great places to find cabinet hardware.  And many of your kitchen and bath dealers will have a great selection and sources to help you find the right pieces. Here are a few of my favorites all available from Richelieu.

3) FAUCETS

Many of your home stores will have broad selections of kitchen faucets. Although you may be limited by the existing drillings you have in your countertop. Try a faucet in a high-end finish like oil rubbed bronze or an antique brass.  This is a great way to update your kitchen.

4) LIGHT FIXTURES

Lighting is such an important part of kitchen design and often overlooked.  Adding just the right pendant over a sink or island or even peninsula cabinets can really make the space. Pendants can really add character and dimension to a kitchen and there are so many beautiful ones available. And please note that it may be best to call a professional to assist you with the installation.

5) BACKSPLASHES

The choices for backsplashes can be quite overwhelming. There is a multitude of options available. Should you go with a trendy long and linear glass mosaic or a natural tumbled travertine? What about a classic glazed subway tile or natural marble tiles? There are some     other really neat options that you may have not considered.  How about brick or ledger stone? Painted or stained bead board? Stainless steel is another great look. And an up and coming new trend is back painted tempered glass in full sheets where the rainbow is your limit of color choice. If this is all too overwhelming, enlist the help of a good friend or hire a designer to help you make your selections. Many tile selection centers have staff on hand that will help you make these choices for no extra charge.
