701 Center for Contemporary Art presents Part II of its eighth South Carolina Biennial
October 20, 2025701 Center for Contemporary Art (701 CCA) announced the opening of the 701 CCA SC Biennial Part II, the second installment of its eighth survey exhibition showcasing the work of contemporary artists from across South Carolina. The exhibition will be on view from November 6 to December 21, 2025.
The 701 CCA SC Biennial is a premier event celebrating the state’s vibrant and diverse art scene. This second part of the exhibition will feature works by 12 distinguished artists, selected by a panel of expert judges for their exceptional talent and unique perspectives. The featured artists are Emma Barnes McClure, Sonya Diimmler, Morgan East, Ada Goldfeld, Lori Isom, Patrick Mahoney, Donald Medley, Jay Owens, Nina Rastgart, Jeff Sumerel, George Wenzel, and Nolan Wright.
The exhibition presents a wide array of media and artistic approaches, reflecting the dynamic landscape of contemporary art in South Carolina. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This event offers the public a chance to meet the artists, engage with the works, and celebrate the creative spirit of the community.
The judges for this year’s Biennial were Sade Ayorinde, curator at the Columbia Museum of Art; Floyd Hall, Executive Director of Atlanta Contemporary; and Deirdre Visser, a San Francisco-based writer, artist, and curator. In her curatorial essay, Visser notes the crucial role of artists today, stating, “Artists are culture’s coalmine canaries, investigating, interrogating, and interpreting the world for a broader audience that does not have the luxury to pay the same close attention. Our work is to listen with care.”
The 701 CCA SC Biennial Part II provides a significant platform for South Carolina artists and invites visitors to explore powerful narratives, innovative techniques, and thought-provoking themes that capture our current moment.
