COLUMBIA, SC – 701 CCA and its May 2015 Artist in Residence, Frank McCauley, present The Frank McCauley New Media Festival in the center’s artist’s loft. The Sumter, S.C., artist and curator will show a different new media production by different artists on four consecutive Sundays – May 10, 17, 24 and 31. McCauley will introduce each production during its Sunday matinee premiere with talk at 2:00 p.m. Each production will run continuously during regular opening hours at 701 CCA along with the exhibition Shannon Rae Lindsey: Entropic Perceptions, which is in the center’s gallery.

McCauley’s first presentation will be Canadian artist’s Jillian McDonald’s monumental three-channel video Valley of the Deer. Filmed in Scotland, characters in the production wear traditional Highland dress along with unsettling animal masks created by McDonald. The video is part of the artist’s exploration of Hollywood genres and archetypes such as horror and romance and their effect on the viewing audience. For more information, go to www.701cca.org.

The second, third and fourth installment of the Frank McCauley New Media Festival will be announced later.

McCauley also will conduct a two-part workshop teaching participants how to shoot and edit their own films on an iPhone or iPod Touch. The workshops will take place Sunday, May 24 & 31 at3:30 p.m. at 701 CCA. For more information, go to www.701cca.org.

Frank McCauley in 2012 was 701 CCA’s guest curator for Faster Forward, a gallery-wide, international new media exhibition that drew large and enthusiastic audiences. He has organized several exhibitions in the new media genre including The Big Switch at Sumter County Gallery of Art as well as Channeling and Art & Television as part of the Accessibility project in downtown Sumter. He is currently the assistant director and chief curator of the Sumter County Gallery of Art as well as a painter, mixed media artist and new media artist.
