Greenlink purchases new route planning software

August 22, 2017

Greenville Transit Authority (GTA) will unveil the recommendations outlined by consultants in the Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA) study at a drop-in style Open House this Thursday, August 24 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Transit Center (100 West McBee Avenue). The goal of the study was to identify improvements that will increase Greenlink’s efficiency and improve service delivery without an increase in resources. To aid in that effort, Greenlink purchasedRemix, a route planning platform for public transit, to help analyze the “before” and “after” effects of the COA strategies.

With Remix, Greenlink can design routes quickly, create plans that are easy to understand and build on the best practices of other agencies. The software allows Greenlink staff to analyze service equity by looking at demographics, travel times, service area and more. According to Gary Shepard, Greenlink’s public transportation director, evaluating both the pros and cons of these recommendations is a crucial component of implementing any improvements. “We want to ensure that we’re doing more good than harm,” said Shepard. “Validation that these changes will have a positive return for the majority of our customers is what we’re looking for.”
