United Way of Greenville County launches #IGaveHere mobile giving campaign
November 2, 2015GREENVILLE, SC – Making a final push toward its 2015 campaign goal, United Way of Greenville County is looking to recruit new donors and garner additional support with a special online giving campaign.
Starting today and continuing over the next two weeks, donors can text “UWGC” to 41444 to be a part of United Way’s “#IGaveHere” campaign. They will immediately be sent a link to complete an online pledge card, which can easily be completed on a smart phone, tablet or computer. Donors choose the amount they want to give and whether they want to make a one-time donation, or set up a monthly, quarterly or annual installment.
United Way is then asking donors to share their support on social media with the hashtag “IGaveHere,” and posting a picture of themselves where they gave to encourage others to join them.
“The ‘I Gave Here’ campaign is about giving local people the chance to help their neighbors in need right here in our community,” said United Way Campaign Chair David Lominack, South Carolina market president of TD Bank. “It’s about a family getting a hot meal and a safe place to sleep. It’s about a child learning her ABCs before she even gets to school. It’s about families—safe, prepared, stable and successful for generations to come.”
United Way’s workplace campaign closed Friday with more than 600 participating companies collecting pledges and donations toward this year’s $17 million goal.
Last year, United Way fell short of its $17 million goal, finishing with a final total of $16.6 million. Lominack hopes the text-to-give campaign will reach a new audience and push the campaign over its fundraising goal.
“This is a great opportunity for members of our community who don’t work at a company that runs a traditional campaign to still get involved and support the important work of United Way of Greenville County,” said Lominack. “The number one reason people give for not donating to United Way is that they were never asked. We don’t want that to be the case here.”
Dollars contributed from the mobile campaign will be used to support United Way’s work to build a Cycle of Success where children start school prepared to learn and go on to graduate, well-educated graduates find good jobs and create stable homes, and children from stable homes continue the cycle because they start school on track and prepared to learn.
Last year, more than 107,000 people advanced along the Cycle of Success in one or more of the four key areas: Life Essentials (emergency assistance for food, shelter, healthcare), School Readiness, High School Graduation, or Financial Stability.
United Way will announce the results of the 2015 campaign total at its Final Report meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19. To join the effort, text “UWGC” to 41444 or visit unitedwaygc.org/give.
