Spartanburg Community College partners with Society of Human Resources Management to offer Certification Courses

July 22, 2015

SPARTANBURG, SC – Spartanburg Community College (SCC) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) have partnered to offer human resource (HR) professionals competency-based certification coursework needed in preparation for new certifications available to industry professionals.

As the largest world-wide association devoted to human resource management, SHRM announced in 2014 the development of new certifications based on the organization’s competency mode, each offering HR professionals the opportunity to enhance their skill-set and gain new credentials. These new credentials – The SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) – are based on the organization’s eight behavioral competencies and one technical competency, and are instrumental for HR professionals that hope to advance their careers and improved their effectiveness in the workplace.

“These new certifications ensure that HR professionals possess the relevant knowledge required in today’s workplace,” says Nannette Bongiovi, SCC’s director of Corporate Training & Career Development.” They test HR competencies – the knowledge to work through critical thinking and application and they cover a full array of HR topics related to people, organization, workplace and strategy.”

J. Robert Carr, SPHR, SHRM senior vice president for membership, marketing and external affairs says the SHRM-CP and the SHRM-SCP are regarded as the new standard in certification for the HR professional. Carr explains, “The Society for Human Resource Management is excited to partner with Spartanburg Community College and to help HR professionals acquire both the competencies and knowledge essential for their success in today’s global economy. SHRM is committed to ensuring that the certifications our certificants receive are recognized as best-in-class and distinguishes them in the marketplace.”

The SHRM Certification Preparation Course to prepare individuals for the Winter exam period (beginning December 1, 2015), begins September 1 at the SCC central campus in Spartanburg.
