The Rotary Club gives $10,000 to local non profits

GREENVILLE, SC – June 11, 2013 –  The Rotary Club of Greenville granted $10,000 Tuesday to six area non-profits for service projects in the coming months.

Grantees were:

  • The Urban League of the Upstate. $3,500: To help create a youth leadership development institute designed to helping foster care teens prepare for the future after they age out of the DSS system.
  • Greenville Symphony Orchestra. $2,000: This grant will help expand the summer “lollipops” program, which is a project aimed at preschool age children that combines music and theater.
  • Greenville Chorale. $1,500: To support the Chorale’s Youth Artist Program, which provides free pre-professional training and mentoring for local high school singers.
  • A Child’s Haven. $1,000: Will provide funding for new playground equipment.
  • St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School. $1,000: Buy books to expand a summer reading program with Rotary volunteers.
  • Pendleton Place. $1,000: Will help fund an on-site medical program for Pendleton Place residents.

Greenville Rotary Grants are intended to serve the local and regional community with financial support to tax-exempt charitable organizations providing humanitarian, education, health and human services in our community.

The grants are administered through Rotary Charities. “We had a lot of strong applications for grants in 2013,” said Walter Kivett, chairman of the grants committee. “There were some tough choices to make, but we feel the programs chosen will truly make Greenville a better place.”
