Upstate Pharmacy School Faculty Member Receives Award from SC Society for Health-Systems Pharmacists

April 6, 2012

GREENVILLE, SC – April 5, 2012 – At the annual meeting of the South Carolina Society for Health-Systems Pharmacists (SCSHP) held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, March 23-25th, Dr. Nancy Hope, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, at Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy (PCSP) received the George B. Schwerin Mentor Award.

This award is presented by the SCSHP when appropriate, but not necessarily annually, to an individual in recognition of contributions to the pharmacy community by inspiring, growing, educating and challenging the pharmacists of the future and in appreciation of their role as a mentor, advisor, and teacher. The award was presented to Dr. Hope by Greg Nobles, president of the SCSHP at the awards luncheon. In attendance at the luncheon was a strong contingent of PCSP students.

“I am honored to receive this award,” said Dr. Nancy Hope.  “I love what I do and have a strong desire to work with students and help them to develop in their career and the profession.”

Dr. Hope was also installed as member of the board of directors for SCSHP while attending the conference.

“We are extremely proud to have a member of our faculty recognized for their mentoring efforts,” said Dr. Stull, dean of PCSP.  “Dr. Hope epitomizes the school’s commitment to community and service with a primary focus of preparing students to go out and carry on this commitment in their careers as pharmacists.” The pharmacy school, now in its second year, continues to grow and provide additional opportunities for students through experiential learning.

In January of this year PCSP launched the Center for Entrepreneurial Development which will present a series of workshops to selected students.  The workshops are designed to provide students with the practical business skills that will need to own and operate their own business or take a pharmaceutical product to market.  As part of the commitment to giving back to the community, the workshop series is open to interested members of the local community.
