Greenlink Receives Statewide Recognition
March 28, 2011South Carolina Department of Transportation honors Greenlink at annual conference
GREENVILLE, SC – March 28, 2011 – Greenlink received the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s (SCDOT) Most Improved Transit Provider Award for outstanding transit services to the general public last week at the Transportation Association of South Carolina’s (TASC) 30th Annual Training Event and Exhibition in Myrtle Beach. The conference, which was held March 19 – 23, featured training on topics ranging from marketing and alternative fuels to emergency management and combining bike, pedestrian and transit ridership.
According to TASC, the purpose of the annual conference is to train new members, showcase the latest in industry products and services and provide opportunities for networking. Conference attendees include transit service providers, as well as local, state and federal officials. Each year, the highlight of the conference is the SCDOT and TASC awards banquet, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the provision of public transportation services. Transportation systems from across South Carolina vie for the honor of being named best in the state and representatives from those transit systems come together annually to honor the achievements of their peers. At the banquet, Doug Frate, SCDOT’s Director of Public Transit, presented Greenlink with the Most Improved Transit Provider Award. General Manager Shelia Schmitt and Grants/Planning Manager Greg Baney accepted the award on Greenlink’s behalf, as Greenville Transit Authority board member Pat Dilger looked on.
“This is a considerable honor, both for the Greenville Transit Authority and for the City of Greenville,” said Carl Jackson, Public Transportation Department Director. “Greenlink’s success over the past year is the result of a team effort and I’m particularly happy for the Greenlink staff, whose hard work and dedication to the Greenville community made this award possible.”
