GMS students’ projects make history come alive

Twelve Gilbert Middle students will advance to a state competition due to their well-executed, real-world projects and performance in regional competition. Participation in National History Day encourages students to delve into historical research and analysis as well as to create thought-provoking presentations.
The students represented the district at the regional National History Day competition held at the South Carolina State Museum on Monday, March 13. Using technology and imagination, they brought past events back to life.
First-place winners include Macie Jade Johnson for Individual Website; Elizabeth Jean Lent and Ashley Lauren Sanders for Group Website; Abigail Katelin Mervine and Grace Annika Lahrman for Group Documentary; and Ashley Elizabeth Ramos-Aranda and Skip Haley Poston for Group Exhibit.
GMS students earning second place include Alli Elizabeth Brophy for Individual Website; Keeley Creede Fields and Brian Scott Scircle for Group Website; and Aubrey Nicole Stalvey and Faith Leona Holmes for Group Exhibit.
Both the first and second place winners move on to the statewide competition taking place at Blythewood High School on Saturday, April 29.
