Why they should love you

Venture capitalist Irwin Federman said it well:

“People don’t love you for who you are.

“They love you for how you make them feel.”

If you can’t make them feel good, what use are you?

If your ads don’t attract them, nothing will happen.

If you can’t ease their pain, please leave them alone.

If you can’t bring them solutions, don’t bother them.

If you can’t inspire them, no sales will result.

Admit you’re reading this because of it’s title.

“Romance in Marketing.” But what in blazes is that? Great question. It’s simple and complex.

Transparent and opaque. Easy and hard.

It’s a series of strategies and tactics to:

• Attract and retain your most profitable clients.

• Build a fence around them competitors can’t climb.

A fence they can’t penetrate or tear down.

• Show how much you love and care for them.

In turn, they love you as your life-long clients.

You still may be feeling a little uncomfortable.

It may be that emotionally-charged word “romance.”

I’ll admit I felt a little uneasy about it at first.

Will my friends think I’m nuts? Gone whacko?

This is business, buddy, they might say.

Romance is for teenagers and the movies.

But that’s not real romance. Romance is different.

It’s something all of us can stand more of in life.

The romance of love, family and marriage.

The romance of high adventure, of trying new things.

It’s not manipulating people into buying stuff.

It’s finding what they want and giving it them.

Master salesman Zig Ziglar said it best.

“You can get almost anything in life you want.

“Just give enough others what they want.”
