Add Personality to Your House with Great Art

If you have been climbing the walls lately, I hope you have bumped into some great art. If you haven’t noticed the art on your walls, then you probably don’t have anything you really love. Most collectors really enjoy their artwork. The art reflects their personality and even their secrets.
There really aren’t any rules for collecting except my rule-Buy What You Love! Over the years, I’ve seen collections of watercolors, oils, photographs and mixtures of all. Some people are fortunate enough to have artists in the family. They have a double benefit of a great story and pieces of art.
Many people agonize about the framing and hanging of their pictures. There is a method to that madness. I recommend a good framer and/or a designer who knows about framing. Some people like a heavy frame and some like less. I almost always frame on the slight side, because I like to see the art and not the frame. It is a matter of scale though; The picture needs to look like it has the support it needs to hang safely. Also, if the art is valuable or even if you just want to preserve it for a long time, as I have with some of my sons’ art, I use cotton rag mats that are used in archival framing. They cost more but are well worth the money in the long run. Please hang your art out of the sunshine. Faded pieces are sad.
Lastly, get started, buy something from one of our many local art galleries or off the wall of a restaurant. Make sure it speaks to you! What does it say?? Buy me, love me, enjoy me. That’s what it says and maybe only to you. Who Cares?
