Waccamaw Community Foundation receives grant for hurricane disaster recovery from Bank of America

January 28, 2019

The Waccamaw Community Foundation as part of the Hurricane Florence Relief Effort benefitting Horry County received a $100,000 grant from the Bank of America Foundation to support the on-going recovery efforts. Funds are distributed to organizations like The Salvation Army, The Red Cross, Catholic Charities and other locally based relief efforts, through a partnership with local Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD).

“We are honored to have been working so closely with and on behalf of our community members in these months since Hurricane Florence,” said Dennis Wade, the foundation’s board chair. “Today’s grant from Bank of America is an extraordinary investment by that institution in the communities we serve, and in which we all live. I and our friends and neighbors are cheered greatly by this generosity.”

Robin Agnew, Bank of America Myrtle Beach Market President, noted: “At a recent Senior Leaders meeting, I was asked what I would like the “Power to do”?  My response was simple: I wanted to bring the breadth and depth of Bank of America to this community with every force I could muster to help with the recovery from the wrath of Hurricane Florence flooding.”

Since the Hurricane Florence pounded the Grand Strand last fall, and leveled a second crushing blow in the form of floodwaters, the Waccamaw Community Foundation has gathered resources and distributed them community wide. To date, the Foundation has administered tens of thousands of dollars from donors. Today’s grant will be used to help people get back into safe, secure and sanitary housing by supporting the work of recovery organizations in the area, such as Impact Ministries, NECHAMA, Catholic Charities and others.

In December, through local market funding, Bank of America also awarded The Shepherd’s Table $12,000 and the Waccamaw Community Foundation was awarded $20,000 for disaster relief.  In total, Bank of America has donated $132,000 in Disaster Relief funding. This was in addition to the $250,000 the Bank of America Charitable Foundation directed to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund prior to the storm.
