Dixon Hughes Goodman donates more than $76,000 to hunger relief organizations in seventh annual Count the Cans food drive campaign
July 18, 2018Dixon Hughes Goodman (DHG) hosted its seventh annual food drive, Count the Cans, to fight hunger during the summer months and make a purposeful impact on the firm’s local communities. Over the 10-day campaign, DHG staff and partners gave more than $76,000 to hunger relief organizations in addition to volunteering nearly 1,000 service hours at local food banks. Over the past seven years, DHG has donated an average of 100,000 pounds of food per year through the annual Count the Cans campaign.
The local offices of DHG in Charleston and Summerville expanded the hunger relief efforts to the animal population as well, supporting both the Lowcountry Food Bank and the Charleston Animal Society through the food drive efforts. The DHG Charleston and Summerville office employees donated 896 cans and raised more than $5800 in donations.
“Serving the Lowcountry community is part of our DNA. We are committed to helping those in need by giving food and pet items in addition to financial donations to local charitable organizations,” said Kip Hooker, Office Managing Partner, Charleston.
Last year, the Foundation also announced its yearlong partnership with paws4people, an organization that trains and places assistance dogs with children, veterans, military dependents and people with disabilities. During one day of the Count the Cans food drive, paws4people received monetary donations from the campaign.
