ECCO announces matching challenge campaign
June 19, 2017East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) announces an opportunity for the community to double the impact of their charitable giving this month. Intended to inspire increased support from the public, a local funder has committed to match the generosity of donations made to the Mount Pleasant based nonprofit before June 30.
As ECCO approaches the end of its 2016-17 fiscal year, staff and Board members want to achieve a balanced budget. Over the last twelve months, the organization has enhanced several programs by adding critical services for low-income families, including:
- Relaunched the Individual Development Account (IDA) program, a nationally implemented initiative that promotes asset growth for low-income households
- Introduced our monthly Fresh and Free Client Choice Farmers Market to provide healthy food options for ECCO clients on a regular basis
- Expanded the Partners in HealthCare clinic hours to offer increased medical services for the uninsured
This fundraising initiative has been made possible by the Daniel Island Community Fund, a dedicated ECCO supporter for the last ten years. All additional, new, and increased gifts made to ECCO before June 30 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $20,000.

The Daniel Island Community Fund (DICF) was established as a means for supporting community enhancement programs and philanthropic initiatives on Daniel Island and in the surrounding Cainhoy peninsula communities. This private 501 (c) 4 organization is financially supported by a Community Enhancement Fee on all resale transactions on the island. The structure of the DICF allows its financial resources to grow as the island grows, creating a legacy for the community for generations to come.
The Daniel Island Community Fund’s board is made up of Daniel Island residents, who are involved with all grants made. The DICF is funded through a half percent enhancement fee that is collected from every real estate transaction on Daniel Island. No money that homeowners pay to their annual property owner assessment goes towards the Community Fund. Click here to learn more.
