Coworking comes to Myrtle Beach to rescue ‘Latte and Laptop’ workers
July 16, 2012MYRTLE BEACH, SC – July 16, 2012 – Cowork MYR is a new business announced by Myrtle Beach based Cubic Phase Inc. Cowork MYR is an open space designed to give the local area freelancers and independent professionals a place to work and collaborate. The space is located on the first floor at 601 21st Avenue North and currently under construction. The central location is convenient to numerous restaurants and financial institutions. A variety of memberships are available ranging from a single day pass all the way up to a full-time, dedicated workstation. The space is planned to be open in early August for membership applications.
The Myrtle Beach area has many qualities that make it ideally suited for the knowledge based industries, says Paul Reynolds (pictured left), President of Cubic Phase Inc. With one space, we can accomplish several goals we have set for ourselves and the community. Some of these goals include diversifying the local economy, addressing the ‘brain drain’ of young talent from our area, and increasing the average income in Horry County. I would personally love for Myrtle Beach become a serious consideration for technology start-ups.
Coworking spaces have grown in popularity nationwide over the past several years. Most facilities offer office-like amenities such as access conference rooms, commercial speed access to the Internet, and secured access. There is also an emphasis on collaboration and community that creates an environment that is very different than traditional shared offices. Established spaces have proven themselves as hubs of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurialism for their communities.
Cowork MYR and Cubic Phase are privately funded by a group of area investors including Brian Millen, owner of Commercial Interior Solutions LLC. CIS is designing the workspace to be outfitted with the latest in commercial grade and sustainable work furniture. The project has also been endorsed by the Grand Strand Technology Council as well as the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation. The Cowork MYR project was announced earlier this year at the 3rd annual Grand Strand Tech Expo.
As the more details are finalized, email updates will be sent to everyone that has signed up at the Cowork MYR website. You can also find Cowork MYR on Facebook at http://facebook.com/coworkmyr
