SC State University Appoints Dr. Cynthia Warrick Interim President

ORANGEBURG, SC – June 1, 2012 – The Board of Trustees of SC StateUniversity voted to appoint Dr. Cynthia Warrick, interim president of SCState University. Dr. Warrick will begin at SC State on July 1, 2012. 

“Weas trustees are excited that Dr. Cynthia Warrick will become ourinterim president,” said Dr. John H. Corbitt, acting chairman of the SCState University Board of Trustees.

“Dr. Warrick is highly qualified and will bring new energy and creativity to SC State University,” he continued. 

Warrickcurrently serves as a senior fellow in the Howard University School ofPharmacy, Center for Minority Health Services Research. As a seniorfellow, Warrick has developed research proposals, mentored faculty andstudents, participated on search committees, recruited students,participated on Federal Advisory Committees, reviewed grants for federalagencies (NIH, CDC, and NRC), published two research papers,facilitated panels at national conferences, and participated on theMiddle States Accreditation reviews for two major universities’ 5-yearperiodic review. 

Prior to her research scholar appointment, Dr.Warrick served as tenured full professor of Pharmacy, dean and chiefresearch officer at Elizabeth City State University; associate professorand director of Environmental and Occupational Health at FloridaA&M University; and, assistant professor in the Division ofManagement, Policy and Community Health at the University of TexasSchool of Public Health, Center for Health, Promotion and PreventionResearch.

“I have an entrepreneurial approach to highereducation and I’m very secure in my abilities to raise funding todevelop the types of programs needed to move South Carolina StateUniversity forward,” said Dr. Cynthia Warrick, interim president, SCState University.

Warrick, a native of San Antonio, Texas, received a Bachelor ofScience degree in Pharmacy from Howard University; a Master of Sciencedegree in Public Policy from Georgia Institute of Technology; and aterminal degree in Environmental Science and Public Policy from GeorgeMason University.
