Municipal Association of SC Recognized for Excellence in Communications
April 28, 2010CHARLESTON, SC – April 28, 2010 – The Municipal Association ofSouth Carolina took home five trophies at the annual Mercury Awardsprogram presented by the SC Chapter of the Public Relations Society ofAmerica in Columbia. Each year, SC PRSA recognizes excellent PRprograms, campaigns, publications and print materials from around thestate.
The following Municipal Association communications programs wererecognized:
- Newsletter (more than 8 pages) – Uptown is the monthly member newsletter. Judgessaid, “…attractive, easy to read, and focuses on topics relevant tomunicipalities.”
- Feature writing – “Downtowns,” a feature story about the importanceof downtown revitalization, was written for placement in the SC Chamberof Commerce magazine. Judges said, “…excellent work in leveragingnetworks to get placement in a critical publication…well researched andwell written…”
- External Websites – The Association’s new Web site (www.masc.sc)launched in July 2009. Judges said, “Look of the site is clean andcrisp. Great use of research.”
- Advertorial – Cities Mean Business magazine tells the good newsstories about what cities and towns are doing to increase the state’seconomic competitiveness. The 16-page magazine is published as an insertin two issues annually of SC Biz magazine. Judges said, “Great idea andexecution. Idea is smart and strategic. Distribution approach iscreative.”
- Public Affairs – The point of sale advocacycampaign used grassroots, media relations and collaborate lobbying tobring attention to a complex tax issue. Judges said, “…well-executedgrassroots campaign to communicate simply a very complex topic.”
TheMunicipal Association of SC represents all 270 cities andtowns in the state to promote economic growth, enhance a positivequality of life, and encourage local accountability and fiscalresponsibility.
