Chapin Police and Shred360 team up for free shred event, school supply drive

The Chapin Police Department and Shred360 are teaming up once again to collect documents from local residents for secure destruction and recycling, and they will collect school supplies for students attending Chapin area schools. The collection will take place on Thursday, August 18, from 11 am-2 pm in the Town Hall parking lot (157 NW Columbia Avenue.)
“This is just a positive way to promote identity theft and fraud protection by allowing residents to bring their sensitive financial records and personal documents to be shredded,” said Captain Troy Crump who leads the department’s community service policing efforts. “We have a slight change in our collection policy to limit folks to three boxes/bags instead of five. This will help keep the line moving along a little better. Of course, if they have more than three, they are welcome to go back through the line again.”
And with school starting back in August, people are encouraged to drop off some school supplies to help local students in need. A suggested list of school supplies is provided below:
- #2 Pencils
- Pens (red, blue and black)
- Inexpensive flash drives
- Boxes of tissue
- Glue sticks
- Handheld pencil sharpeners
- Loose leaf notebook paper
- 3×3 Post It Notes
- Highlighters
- Composition Notebooks (not spiral)
- Graph paper
- 3×5 Index Cards
“We appreciate Shred360’s ongoing support as we are able to host 3-4 of these free events a year,” Crump added. The last event held in April as part of Community Service Day brought in more than 5000 pounds of paper.
