Commander of the Royal Highland Fusiliers to serve as Honored Chief of the Scottish Games

The Greenville Scottish Games is thrilled to announce that Lt. Col. Campbell Close is going to be their Honored Chief of the Games on Saturday, May 25th at Furman University.

Close is the Commander of the Royal Highland Fusiliers (2SCOTS), which is part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland – British Army. He has served in numerous roles in many areas of the world including Iraq, Germany, France and Kosovo.

Also, for the ninth year in a row, an eight-man team from the Royal Highland Fusiliers (2SCOTS) will be arriving the week of the Games to serve as the official Honor Guard of the Greenville Scottish Games. This Honor Guard is hosted by the St. Andrews Society of Upper South Carolina.

The Great Scot! Parade will be led by the RHF Honor Guard on Friday, May 24 at 6 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Greenville. This Honor Guard will also lead the Military Salute at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25th at the Games at Furman University.

The Greenville Scottish Games are the biggest Scottish heritage festival in the Carolinas. The 2019 event features heavy athletics, piping/drumming competitions, Wee Scotland for the kids, Celtic music and fun for the whole family.

The Greenville Scottish Games began in 2006, and from its inception has consistently taken an innovative, fresh approach to celebrating Scottish heritage. Greenville is nestled in arguably the highest concentration of people Scots-Irish descent in the country. The legacy left to us resonates throughout the Upstate in our place’s names, our attitude toward family, our sense of humor and our love of country.

The Greenville Scottish Games will be held Saturday, May 25 at Furman University. Highlights of the games include a Great Scot! Parade in downtown Greenville on Friday, May 24, a Miss Greenville Scottish Games pageant, a British car show, a Military Tribute and the Games themselves, which are drawn from the warrior traditions at ancient clan gatherings.
