Tackle the summer learning challenge by exploring a new language

July 3, 2019

One month is down, and there are two to go toward completing Richland Library’s Summer Learning Challenge. If you’re looking to venture out and try something new, we’re offering access to an award-winning, online resource for learning a new language.

Our Teen Center is hosting a free program series, titled Parlez-vous francais? Using Mango Languages, pick up on vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar while exploring the French culture and cuisine. Those ages 12 to 18 can join us from 6 – 7:30 p.m., Thursdays at our Main location (1431 Assembly Street) on the following dates: July 11; July 18; July 25 and August 1.

Do you want to set your own pace? Having a Richland Library card unlocks the door to Mango Languages and more than 70 languages. The web-based, interactive program has a simple, step-by-step interface. Each lesson includes audio and visual learning methods that are suited for all ages.

Recently undergoing updates, Mango Languages has a new look and feel that is more user-friendly. The company says these advancements, “adapt to the learners’ pace and adjust to how often they learn, which motivate beginners as well as continuously encourage long-term learners to increase conversational abilities.”

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, the number of Americans who speak a foreign language at home is nearly 67 million.
