Local organization to host event that exposes youth to arts entrepreneurship
October 20, 2021Entrepreneur Centers 4 Youth (EC Youth) presents Financial Literacy – Making Money in the Arts on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 1-5 PM at Jenkins Institute for Children (3923 Azalea Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405). This event is purposed to inform youth on how money can be made mainly through arts careers but also through other types of entrepreneurship. The theme is “Entrepreneurs in the Arts.” Admission is free.
There will be vendors, food trucks, speakers from various business fields, and youth talent, such as singing, dancing, poetry, stepping, visual art, and photography. Entrepreneurial speakers will provide mini-sessions on topics regarding starting a business, how to make money working in the arts, marketing, and more.
Keeping in line with October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this year, EC Youth is selling pink men’s awareness t-shirts to remind people that “men breasts matter 2.” EC Youth’s “ALL INN (Increase, Networth, Network)” t-shirts will also be for sale. The organization is still accepting business vendors (youth and adult), food vendors and trucks, and sponsors for this weekend’s event. Vendor spots, sponsorship, and pre-ordered t-shirts can all be purchased, along with donations given, via Eventbrite.com under EC Youth Presents: Financial Literacy – Making Money in the Arts. EC Youth Founder and CEO Pleshette Grant states that she is excited about providing opportunities like this event to inform youth about financial literacy through business education at an early age.
EC Youth usually holds financial literacy events in January, June, and October with speakers who educate attendees on starting a business, strategic planning, law, marketing, accounting, banking, money management, politics, and more. The organization also has a Learn Earn, Earn Learn (L.E.E.L.) Program that allows youth participants to earn stipends made possible through sponsors and grants for attending school, meeting with their mentors and tutors, volunteering, and working on their portfolio for planning for their future. The EC Youth theme is Education + Entrepreneurship = Dreams Come True.
Entrepreneur Centers 4 Youth (EC Youth) was established to expose youth ages 17 and younger to entrepreneurship. Its mission is building youth entrepreneurs and entrepreneur centers, too. Each youth is their own center. Youth are taught the tools of entrepreneurship, which are education, volunteering, mentoring, tutoring, apprenticeships, vending, scholarships, and more, and how to use them. EC Youth has an ultimate goal of educating youth about financial literacy.
