Safe Schools Project joins South Carolina Coalition for Safer Schools

September 8, 2022

The South Carolina Coalition for Safer Schools is excited to be joined by the Safe Schools Project, growing Coalition membership to six associations focused on the well-being of children. In joining the Coalition, the Safe Schools Project will work to advance the Coalition’s School Safety Agenda alongside the Palmetto State Teachers Association, South Carolina Association of School Psychologists, the South Carolina Counseling Association, the South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Institute for Child Success.

First formed in 2018, the Safe Schools Project is a nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy group of educators committed to enhancing policy conversations around school safety in South Carolina. In explaining the decision to join the Coalition for Safer Schools, Project founder and South Carolina teacher Patrick Martin shared that “We are excited to join with these other stakeholders groups. As classroom teachers and school staff, we see firsthand the successes and the challenges to safe school communities, and we are optimistic that partnering with such a broad coalition will further the advocacy efforts we have been working on for the past four years.”

The Coalition for Safer Schools welcomes other associations to join in the collaborative work of advancing childhood wellness and safety and South Carolina through local, state, and federal policy actions.
