Cogswell administration announces Emergency Management restructuring
March 18, 2024Today, Mayor William Cogswell, in collaboration with Charleston Fire Chief Dan Curia, has taken decisive action to restructure the city’s emergency management framework. The City of Charleston’s Emergency Management Director has submitted his resignation, effective immediately.
The Emergency Management Division will be permanently integrated into the Charleston Fire Department. This strategic decision aims to harness the expertise and resources of our dedicated first responders, ensuring that the city is better equipped to handle emergency situations efficiently and effectively. The move also aligns with the Mayor Cogswell’s priority of Sound Governance.
Mayor Cogswell emphasized the importance of this restructuring, stating, “This administration is not afraid to act when confronted with structural and operational problems in the city. Our residents deserve the very best from city services, and this administration is committed to putting our citizens first.”
