Clinton Police Department Announces D.A.R.E. Summer Camp for 6th Graders

The Clinton Police recently announced its inaugural D.A.R.E. Summer Camp, designed exclusively for rising 6th graders in the local community. Scheduled to run from July 8 to July 12, 2024, this week-long camp aims to educate and empower young students on making positive life choices. Interested families can obtain further details and registration forms from several participating schools, including Clinton Elementary, Eastside Elementary, Joanna Woodson Elementary, Thornwell Charter, and Summit School.

The camp’s curriculum will draw upon the principles of the renowned D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program, which has a proven track record of fostering healthy decision-making among youth. Notably, studies have indicated a significant decrease—ranging from 32% to 44%—in the use of substances like marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol among students who have completed the D.A.R.E. program.

Clinton Police Chief Sonny Ledda expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming camp, emphasizing its potential impact on the community. “We are thrilled to offer this engaging and educational experience to our local students,” Chief Ledda remarked. “D.A.R.E. Summer Camp represents our commitment to fostering a safe and drug-free environment for our youth.”

Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure their child’s participation by completing all required paperwork and submitting it to their respective School Resource Officer (SRO) by Friday, May 3, 2024.
