Squealin’ on the Square Postponed Due to Hurricane Helene Impact

September 30, 2024

The 24th Annual Squealin’ on the Square, originally set for Friday and Saturday, October 4th and 5th, has been postponed due to the historic and lingering impact of Hurricane Helene. The Main Street Laurens Board met this morning and, after receiving input from emergency services, vendors, and downtown businesses, voted unanimously to reschedule the event.

“We understand how much our community looks forward to Squealin’ on the Square each year,” said Craig Scharton, Director of Main Street Laurens. “However, with the ongoing effects of Hurricane Helene, we believe postponing is the best decision to ensure a safe and successful event for everyone involved.”

A key factor in this decision is the need to prioritize ongoing clean-up and recovery efforts across Laurens County. “Right now, it’s important for our community to focus on helping one another get back on their feet,” said Scharton. “By postponing the festival, we hope to allow time for these vital efforts to continue without the added strain of a large-scale event in the heart of downtown.”

A new date for Squealin’ on the Square will be announced after the October Board Meeting, scheduled for October 16th. This will provide an opportunity to gather further feedback from emergency services, vendors, and the community before proceeding with plans.

While the postponement may be disappointing, Main Street Laurens remains committed to hosting a festival that celebrates the strength and resilience of Laurens County. As the community recovers from the storm, the event will be a much-needed opportunity to come together in fellowship.

Stay tuned for updates and thank you for your understanding and support as Laurens County focuses on recovery.
